Medvedev: Global trade wars to produce no winners

Medvedev71HANOI, Nov 19 (PRIME) -- The global trade war is already under way and is bearing fruit to the states which try to impose their vision, but this is a no winner game, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev told reporters on Monday following his visit to Papua New Guinea and Vietnam.

“It is happening. We see the fruit it brings to some states which try to impose their course. On the other hand, it brings loss to the whole global trade system. Because there will be no winners in it… in the end,” he said.

“Unfortunately, now the entire trade system is threatened by the consequences of certain decisions made by certain states. To be honest, the story began with decisions made by one of our partners, the United States of America.”

Medvedev also hoped that more and more states will endorse the free trade and multilateral relations principles and added that the attitude already has multiple supporters, including China, Vietnam and the E.U.

The Prime Minister reiterated that Russia backs the framework and the core principles of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

On November 17, he said that the WTO requires renovation, but without weakening its role or all the more dismantling.

The official also said that Russia is transforming into a strong player of the global food market.
